INTRODUCTION

We are Rebecca,Charlotte,George,Andrew and Jessica.We are students at San Jose school in Lugo (Spain).We have recently done a project about the USA. We are setting up this blog beacause we want to share our information about the project with other people. In this blog you can find out information about the geography of the USA, its history, famous people, recent news, customs and traditions, daily life and sumbols of the country.

CLIMATE

The climate of the USA is varied due to its extension, you can find a tropical climate in Hawaii and Florida, and an Artic climate in Alaska , a temperate climate in California and a humid one in north-east States.

MOUNTAINS AND RIVERS

The most well-know rivers are: the Mississippi, the Missouri, the Big River , the Yukon and the Colorado River.
The Rocky Mountains stand out.

FAUNA

There are 400 species of mammals, 730 species of birds and 500 species of reptiles or anphibians. There are 91.000 species of insects too.

POPULATION

9,83 million square kilometres with more than 316 million people, the country is the third in population. It is one of the most ethnically diverse and multicultural nations is the world, product of inmigration on a large scale. It is on the other hand, the world`s largest national economy.

HISTORY

Spanish explorers were the first Europeans with Cristóbal Colón who reached Puerto Rico on November 19, 1492. Later, the British people conolized USA, but the American people proclaimed their indepence and there was a war against the British people. The war lasted from 1775 to 1783 and the victory was to North America. The golden age was a time of expansion and prosperity to the USA. 


COSTUMES AND TRADITIONS

SPORTS
The United States is keen on sport ,with millions of fans who like football  ,basketball, and hockey,and many other sports.

MUSIC
American music is very diverse with many styles, incluiding rhythm, blues, jazz, country, western, rock " n " roll and hip hop.

ARTS
The United States has a vibrant movie industry centered in Hollywood .

AMERICAN STYLE
Clothing styles vary by region and climate,but the American style of dressing is predominantly
casual. Denim ,sneakers ,cowboy hats and boots are some popular items . Some well-knoun
American brands are Ralph Lauren ,Calvin Klein ,Michael Kors and Victoria Secret.

RELIGION
Nearly every know religion is practied in the United States .More than 75 percent of Americans identyfly themselves as Christians .About 20 percent of the population has no religion.

THE AMERICAN POLITICAL SYSTEM

The USA is a Federal Constitutional Republic of 50 states.
Federal Government is composed of:
-The President  of the United States (Executive)
-Congress (Legislative)
-The Judiciary (Judicial)

These three branches (executive,legislative,judiciary) share powers. There are teo main political parties : the Democratic party and tve Republican party although there are smaller parties too. 
The White House os tve official residence and principal workplace of the president of the USA in Washington D. C. (who is Barack Obama at present). George Washington was the first president of the USA in 1789.

THE DOLLAR

  It is the officiall currency of the United States and it's overseas territaries.It is divided into 100 cents.The USA dollar is the currency used in most international transictions.It's one of the world's most dominant reserve currencies.It is also used as the official currency of other countries.The United States Constitution,ratified in 1788 idenied individual states the might to coin + print money.The first bank of the United States (1791),and the coinage act of 1792,began the Era of the dollar.

 There are many symbols that represent the United States of America. Some of the most popular ones are the Starts and Stripes (the USA flag) , the Great Seal of the USA , the bald eagle (their national bird)...

LANDMARK

The USA has the  world's most famous theme parks, Walt Disney World's Resort in Orlando, Florida, and Disneyland Resort in Anaheim, California. Coney Island in Brooklin, New York, is another world-famous recreation destination.

LANGUAGES

The official languages is English but they speak other languages like Spanish, French, Capú and Hawaian too.

FOOD

 In the USA the main type of food is meat. A popular hamburger is the quarter pounder. American people also love brownies, pancakes, fried chicken, pop corn, cereals...

FAMOUS PEOPLE

Michael jackson: Michael Joseph Jackson ( August 29,1958-June 25,2009) was an American singer-songwriter, dancer, bussines man and philanthropist. 


LeBron James: LeBron Raymore James (born December 30,1984), is an American profesional basketball player for the Miami Heat of the National Basketball Asociation (NBA). Standing at 2.03 metres and weighing 113 kg .

NEWS

         Minutes before starting to shoot, the soldier Ivan Lopez, of thirty-four and Puerto Rican had  a strong argument with Personnel Departament staff. When he went to leave for personal matters he was told to come back the following day. Anonymous sources told the police that on that day Lopez was disrespectful and angry at not getting permision inmediately.
